MixChem develops and manufactures the CX series of grinding aids — specialty liquid additives based on modified alkanolamines for the cement industry.

Cement Clinker Grinding Aids

Grinding balls

Our grinding aids are liquid chemical additives fed directly into the ball mill during the grinding of cement clinker. They reduce particle surface energy, eliminate the effect of powder coating on grinding media and mill linings, and activate the hydration of cement minerals.

How Our Additives Work

During grinding, fine clinker particles are electrostatically attracted to the grinding media and mill walls, forming so-called "coating" — a build-up layer that dramatically reduces grinding efficiency. CX grinding aids neutralize the surface charge of particles and create a monomolecular layer that prevents agglomeration. The result is free powder flow, greater contact area between grinding media and clinker, and therefore higher productivity and lower energy consumption.

Beyond the purely mechanical effect, CX series additives have a chemical action: they activate the hydration process of clinker minerals C₃S and C₂S, providing increased cement stone strength at various stages of hardening.

Key Benefits of Application

mill productivity increase of 15–25%;
reduction in specific energy consumption;
improved particle size distribution — increased content of the most active fraction 3–32 µm;
compressive strength gain at early (1–3 days) and late (28 days) stages;
ability to increase the proportion of mineral admixtures (slag, fly ash, limestone) without losing standard values;
reduced pack-set index — prevention of cement caking in silos;
elimination of powder coating on grinding balls and mill lining.

Dosage and Implementation

CX series additives are fed undiluted directly onto the clinker conveyor belt or into the first mill chamber using a membrane or piston dosing pump. Recommended dosage is 0.02–0.08% by weight of cement (200–800 g per tonne), depending on the product and grinding conditions.

Optimal dosage is determined individually for each plant based on the clinker's mineralogical composition, mill type, and target strength values.

Standards and Compatibility

All CX series products meet international quality standard requirements, contain no chlorides (non-corrosive to reinforcement), and are compatible with all types of Portland cement (CEM I, CEM II/A, CEM II/B), cement substitutes (ground granulated blast furnace slag, fly ash, limestone), and concrete admixtures (plasticizers, anti-freeze additives).
